Type of
Tasks:
TASK 1:
Candidates are required to write a letter of
150 words. In
task I of the Writing Module in General Module, you have letter writing: Formal
letters like complaints, requests, etc and Informal letters like letters to
friends and relatives. Candidates are
advised to spend about 20 minutes on this task.
TASK 2:
In task 2
candidates are required to write an essay of app.250 words on a topic of
academic interest. However, no specialized knowledge is required to write the
easy.
Candidates are
advised to spend about 40 minutes on this topic. No choice is
available in either topic.
SKILLS CHECKED IN WRITING Task
1.
Spellings
& punctuations
2.
Style
& content; should be appropriate to the task.
3.
Grammar
& sentence structure should be correct & appropriate to the task. It
should also show variety.
4.
Analytical
power. The question should be analyzed & answered without deviating from
the topic.

Use of
vocabulary, & language.

Is
information presented in well organized manner & easy to follow way?

Is the
style as per the topic?
8.
How the
ideas have been developed & presented? Have appropriate examples been

Writing Module: Task I (General Module)
In
task I of the Writing Module in General Module, you have letter writing:

Tips for Perfect Letter
Writing:
CHECK YOUR ESSAY in PART 2 FOR
ESSAY TITLE:
1. Have I accurately identified the general subject & focus of the
essay?
2. Am I clear about organizing the words in the essay title? Do I
understand what I have to write about?
ORGANIZATION:
1. Is the structure of the essay clear?
2. Have I connected my introduction with title of the essay?
3. Have each of the paragraph got a clear topic sentence? Does each
paragraph deal with one main point?
4. Is conclusion short & concise? Does it more or less repeat what
I have stated in my opening paragraph?
CONTENT:
1. Have I kept to the theme of the essay or I have strayed from it by
including points & examples which are not relevant?
2. Have I made my points very clear?
3. Have I helped the reader by including clear examples, whenever
possible?
4. Am I completing the task given to me?
5. Is my essay of the right length?
6. Have I avoided using informal language?
GRAMMAR:
1. Is the structures of my sentence clear or some sentences are too
long & complicated making the essay difficult to understand?
2. Have I used appropriate & precise vocabulary?
3. Have I checked carefully to make sure that I have avoided making
mistakes, i.e. language errors that I usually make in grammar, syntax
& spellings
Basic Rules for Writing
1. Restrain your emotions
2. Avoid excessive emphasis
3. Rule out personal prejudices
4. Show your preference clearly
5. Keep sentence structure simple
6. Use transitional expressions for clarity
7. Use active voice
8. Don’t overuse conjunctions
9. Provide variety to the composition
10. Use idioms, phrasal verbs etc.
11. Use correct grammar & vocabulary
